We are developing a new Cornwall Local Plan
We are preparing a new Local Plan which will set out the strategic planning framework for Cornwall. The Local Plan will guide decisions on the location, scale and type of development and have policies for protecting our environment, communities and economy.
We are preparing a new Local Plan because the current adopted Local Plan must be reviewed to ensure it remains up-to-date and reflects the changes in national policy.
The Cornwall Local Plan will cover the whole of Cornwall and will include strategic policies for minerals and waste. The Plan will replace the current adopted Cornwall Local Plan when it is complete.
Notice of intention to commence preparation of the Local Plan
We have published a Notice of Intention to commence preparation of a new Local Plan which formally starts the plan-making process under the reformed planning system.

Local Plan timetable
We have published a local plan timetable setting out the key stages and expected timescales for preparing the Local Plan. This includes periods for consultation, submission, examination and adoption.
The timetable will be kept under review and updated where necessary.
Current stages and progress
We are currently at the early plan preparation stage including scoping and evidence gathering and work to inform the future content of the Local Plan.
Any updates, interim reports or progress reports relied upon in preparing the Local Plan will be published and made publicly available.
Current planning policy
The adopted Cornwall Local Plan (2016) remains in force and continues to be used in planning applications until the new Cornwall Local Plan is adopted.
