About the scheme
To help with rising energy costs, the Government has introduced a £150 Council Tax rebate. This is for households in Council Tax bands A to D. In addition to this the Government has awarded extra money to Cornwall Council to offer further discretionary help.
Who is eligible
This funding is limited. It is intended to be targeted to households who have been most impacted by rising energy costs.
Automatic payments
Funding will be automatically awarded to the following groups:
- households in receipt of Council Tax Support in bands A to D. An additional payment of £20 will automatically be awarded to these households. This will mean a total of £170 will be paid to these households
- households in receipt of Council Tax Support in bands E to H. A payment of £150 will be awarded to these households
In addition, a single one-off payment of £150 will be awarded to:
- Anyone in bands E – H who receives a carer’s discount
- Anyone in bands E – H with a severe mental impairment
- Anyone in bands F – H where there has been a band reduction for disability
- Anyone in bands E – H where all occupiers of the property are aged under 18
- Anyone in E – H with Class W exemption (Annexes occupied by a dependant relative over 65 or disabled or suffering with a severe mental impairment)
Support if you are not liable for Council Tax
Some people are not liable for Council Tax but live in a property banded for Council Tax and are responsible for energy bills. Anyone in this situation may qualify for a single one-off payment of £150. For example, this could include a house in multiple occupation where the landlord pays the Council Tax but tenants are liable for their own energy costs.
The weekly household income from earnings or a state, private or occupational pension should not be more than £550 per week. (A household is defined as the applicant and their partner.) The household should have capital and savings of less than £6,000
