How to put your recycling out for collection
- Put your recycling out by 7am on your collection day
- Put it out at your usual collection point – for most homes that’s the property boundary
- Use the coloured bags and black box we’ve provided and make sure the bag lids are closed
- Please take your containers back to your property once they have been collected, so they don’t get lost, damaged, or cause an obstruction
- If you’ve moved to a new build home, you’ll need to order food waste, recycling and rubbish containers for your property
What goes in your recycling bags and box
We provide reusable coloured bags and a black box for you to put your recycling out for collection in:
- Red bag – plastic and metal packaging
- Orange bag – cardboard
- Blue bag - paper
- Black box – glass and textiles
If you live in a flat and share bins with your neighbours, this may be different for you. Check with your site manager for information about your recycling containers.
You can find out more about what goes into each recycling container using the link below.
Find out what goes in each recycling bag and box What to do with items we don't collect
You can take items like batteries, electricals and other waste to most of our Household Waste and Recycling Centres.
For items that are too large for the normal household recycling or rubbish collections, we offer a bulky waste collection service. There is a charge for this service.
Not sure if it can be recycled?
Our recycling A-Z is a useful tool that allows you to search for items and see whether they can be recycled and which container they go in.
Broken glass and sharp objects
Please don’t put broken glass in your recycling box. Carefully wrap any broken glass or sharp objects or put them in a sturdy plastic container like an ice cream tub. Clearly label the package so the crew know there’s broken glass inside and leave it out on top of your wheelie bin or sack.
Why sorting at home matters
Sorting your recycling at home makes it easier to recycle it.
Putting cardboard and paper in one bin with plastic and metal packaging that may have had food in it can make the cardboard and paper unrecyclable.
Your home sorting keeps the recycling cleaner and this means we can send it to trusted UK-based recycling companies instead of shipping it abroad.

Assisted collections
We offer an assisted collection service to people that are unable to move their waste to their property boundary for collection. Assisted collections allow you to pick an outside location closer to your property for us to collect your recycling and other waste from.
Find out more about assisted collectionsWhat to do if you have extra recycling
Do you regularly have more recycling than you can fit in your bags and box? You can order extra and replacement containers using the link below.
Order recycling bags, boxes and food waste caddies
If you have extra recycling bags as a one off, from the delivery of a large appliance or after a party from example, please:
- flatten extra cardboard, tie it into a bundle and leave out with the rest of your recycling
- put extra plastics, cans and tins in a carrier bag and leave with the rest of your recycling
- put extra paper in a carrier bag and leave out with the rest of your recycling
You can also take extra recycling to your local Household Waste and Recycling Centre.
