Local development orders

What is a Local Development Order?

A Local Development Order (LDO) is a simple tool. It allows a Local Planning Authority to introduce new permitted development rights. LDOs are flexible and consistent with local determination. They are part of a move to remove bureaucracy. As well as redefining issues where planning makes a contribution to the local area.

LDOs are a means for the planning system to add incentives to development. This is in a way that meets a whole range of specific policy objectives.
