Fostering support

Some of our foster carers tell us what it's like to be a fosterer and the difference it can make

Watch our short filmsWe offer the best support in Cornwall to our foster carers. Our support team is on hand 24/7, 365 days a year. The support available includes:

  • health specialists
  • youth workers
  • educational psychology professionals

This means that there is always a member of the Fostering Team for you to talk to, and that we can get help to you at any time should it be needed.

You’ll become a part of our support and friendly network who know exactly what you’re going through and will be there to lend a hand or supportive ear.

You will have a mentor, who is an experienced foster carer who will also support and guide you through your first year.  You will also have access to our East and West Cornwall teams of dedicated social workers.

We run a continuous training programme throughout the year. Some of the training is mandatory and some of it is not. The training ranges from core skills that are needed to be a foster carer to more specialist training.  Specialist training may benefit carers in order to meet the needs of a specific child in their care.

There are also regular support groups run by, and for, foster carers.
