My Cornwall Wedding privacy notice


The Cornwall Registration Service, under the banner of My Cornwall Wedding e-newsletter is committed to protecting your privacy and security. This policy sets out how and why we use your personal data to keep you informed and in control of your information.

Who we are

The My Cornwall Wedding newsletter is an e-news service operated by Cornwall Council’s Registration Service under the name of My Cornwall Wedding. They are based at County Hall, 4N County Hall, Truro, TR1 3AY

How we collect information from you

My Cornwall Wedding collects and stores information you give us directly via the:

  • My Cornwall Wedding email subscription form and
  • Cornwall Council – My Cornwall Wedding website newsletter sign up form

Type of information we collect from you

The personal information we collect about you can include:

  • your name and email address for sending your e-newsletter,
  • your IP address, operating system and browser type for administration purposes and to produce internal reports,
  • the date and time you subscribed to My Cornwall Wedding so we comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation , and
  • your location, so we can tailor content to your local area.

How we will use the information about you

We will use the information you give us directly on the My Cornwall Wedding newsletter sign up form to send you the My Cornwall Wedding e-newsletter. This e-newsletter will provide wedding ceremony inspirations and will support you every step of the way on your journey to getting married or undertaking a civil partnership. This will include the legalities of getting married or forming a civil partnership, to how to select the perfect licensed wedding venue to adding meaningful personal touches to your ceremony.

We may also use your information to:

  • present the content of the e-newsletter in the most efficient way for you and the computer or mobile device you are using
  • enable you to use any interactive features of the e-newsletter
  • send you information that relates to My Cornwall Wedding and Cornwall Council’s website or to other services relating to legal, bespoke celebrant-led ceremonies. For example, sending you information about
    • send you information on services we think may be useful to you in line with getting married or forming a civil partnership, including
      • Choosing your licensed venue
      • The legal wedding package options
      • How to personalise your ceremony, making it meaningful and legal.
      • How we can support you throughout your ceremony journey.
    • seek your views or comments on services we provide,
    • tell you about any changes to Cornwall Council’s website and services.
    • to create a profile of your interests and preferences so we can make our newsletters more relevant to you. 

Use of cookies

Like other organisations, we also gather information from you indirectly. This is through the use of ‘cookies’ on the Cornwall Council website. Cookies are small pieces of information sent by a business’ or organisation’s website to your computer. They are stored on your hard drive to allow that website to recognise you when you next visit. Cookies are used to improve a website visitor’s online experience. They collect statistical data about your browsing actions and patterns. They do not identify you as an individual. Using cookies helps us to:

  • improve our website
  • deliver effective communications and
  • offer you a more personalised service 

You can switch off cookies by adjusting your browser preferences. Or by using a dedicated browser extension.

How long we hold your data

We regularly review how long we keep your personal information. Currently, we intend to hold your data for up to three years after your last engagement with the My Cornwall Wedding e-newsletter. Unless you ask us to delete your information from our records before that time. Please see the how do I opt out and your rights sections below for details on how to view, amend or delete your personal data from our records.

Who else has access to your information

We won’t sell or rent your information to third parties or share it with other Cornwall Council departments for marketing, or any other purposes. This is unless we are required to do so by law. For example, by a court order or for the purposes of prevention of fraud or other crime.

We do transfer your information outside the European Economic Area. This is to a third-party data email platform called Mailchimp, which is based in the US, that processes your data for us.

We only give them the minimum information necessary in order to deliver the e-newsletter to you. It must not be used for their own direct marketing purposes. You can find the full terms and conditions on the Mailchimp website.

Opting out

We will stop sending you news and information from Cornwall Council unless you actively choose to sign-up to the My Cornwall Wedding e-newsletter service. You can opt in by filling in the resubscription form. If, later on, you no longer want to receive the My Cornwall wedding e-newsletter, you can unsubscribe in one of two ways:

  • Click the ‘unsubscribe’ or ‘change preferences’ link at the bottom of any of e-newsletters sent to you.
  • Email mycornwallwedding@cornwall.gov.uk
  • Contact 0300 1234 181. We will aim to process your request within 30 calendar days of receipt of the request to withdraw.

We will not contact you again by email, phone or text message for marketing purposes unless you give your prior consent.

Data rights

Your personal information belongs to you and you have the right to:

  • be informed of how we will process it
  • request a copy of what we hold about you and in commonly used electronic format if you wish. If you provided this to us electronically for automated processing, we will return it in the same way
  • have it amended if it’s incorrect or incomplete
  • have it deleted (where we do not have a legal requirement to retain it)
  • withdraw your consent if you no longer wish us to process your information
  • restrict how we process it

View, correct or delete your personal data

You can ask to view, delete or correct any personal data The Cornwall Registration Service as My Cornwall Wedding holds about you at any time. Under data regulation laws we must comply with your request within 21 days.

You will need to make your request to view, amend or delete your personal data in writing, by email to dpo@cornwall.gov.uk, or letter to Data Protection Officer, New County Hall, Treyew Road, Truro TR1 3AY or Tel 01872 326424. 

Correcting inaccurate information or deleting your personal data

If you find the information we hold about you is inaccurate, or you’d like us to delete your details altogether, please contact us and tell us. By email at mycornwallwedding@cornwall.gov.uk, phone on 0300 1234 181 or by letter to The Cornwall Registration Service, 4N, County Hall, Truro, TR1 3AY.

I don’t agree with something

We would prefer any complaints to be made to us initially so that we have the opportunity to see if we can put things right. However, if you are unhappy with the way we have processed your information or how we have responded to your request to exercise any of your rights in relation to your data, you can raise your concerns direct with the Information Commissioner’s Office
