‘It’s pawty time!’ Council’s stray dog service bags top RSPCA award
Cornwall Council has been commended by the RSPCA for its ‘unwavering commitment to animal welfare’.
Its stray dog service, which looks after lost and abandoned pets, has received a Gold Standard PawPrints award for the 13th year on the trot.
This means it continues to be recognised by the national charity as Platinum standard, awarded to all organisations that are rated gold for five consecutive years.

Restaurant owner fined £14,000 for 'filthy and rancid' conditions
The owner of the Amity Tandoori, Redruth, has been fined £14,000 after a series of food inspections found the premises to be 'filthy and rancid'.
Sultan Ahmed was prosecuted for seven food hygiene offences following the inspection and numerous re-visits between December 2022 and June 2023, in which there were no improvements to the poor food hygiene standards.

Solar canopy to reduce energy costs at New County Hall
Work is about to start on a canopy of 543 solar panels that will cover the entire New County Hall visitors’ car park and significantly reduce running costs for the building.
The 230-kilowatt project will power a third of the energy needs of Cornwall Council’s headquarters in Truro and decrease its carbon footprint.

2031 Change to legislation for Definitive Map Modification Order applications

10,000 years of Cornish history uncovered during A30 improvement works
Evidence of 10,000 years of Cornish history has been unearthed by Cornwall Council’s Cornwall Archaeological Unit (CAU) during the work to upgrade the A30 between Chiverton and Carland Cross.
Among the finds were tool preparation areas from the Mesolithic period, a Bronze Age burial mound, and evidence of Roman road construction.
