Some children and young people find learning difficult and are progressing academically at a slower pace than their peers and are identified as having a cognition and learning need.
We work collaboratively with schools, parents, children and young people to ensure inclusion, achievement and progression. You do not need an Education, Health and Care Plan to access this team.
How to access our support
If you have worries or concerns it is important that you speak to your child or young person's educational setting. Ensure that you talk to someone who is working with them. This may be:
- an early years setting such as a nursery or a childminder
- a school
- a post 16 setting
Requests for involvement should be by your child / young person's educational setting. You will be asked to complete a parental consent form. This gives the setting your permission to share your child / young person’s details with us. This is essential for a request for involvement to be considered. Not every request for involvement results in support.
What our support looks like?
- we will watch some learning happen in your child / young person’s class
- we will talk with your child / young person about what they like / don’t like and enjoy or find difficult
- we will look at some of your child / young person’s schoolwork and might take photos of this
- we will talk to key staff about how your child / young person is progressing in school.
- we will try and help you and key staff understand more about how your child / young person can learn best
- we will help to think of strategies to make learning easier for your child / young person
- we will help think of ideas that make any trickier parts of school and learning feel easier to manage
We will provide a report to set out our findings and recommendations for the educational setting. You will also receive a copy.
