The Early Years support service works mostly with educational settings, to support them, with the children they look after. However, we can work with parents/carers of children in some cases. This is often when they child has special needs – or may have special needs.
We can:
- Supporting Early Years Settings or Schools with specialist training and advice. This helps them develop how they work to support children, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).
- Working with children together with the staff, or other professionals who have direct involvement with your child. This might be a health visitor or speech and language therapist. We do this by offering advice, guidance and practical programmes of support. Children are given support appropriate for their needs, with your consent.
- Attend Team around the Child meetings, to support and advise
- Help parents and Early Years professionals identify development issues early
We offer some direct support to parents and carers:
- Support to gather evidence for filling in an Education Health and Care Plan application. (We cannot fill in the form for you, but can give advice.)
- Around transition to school, together with the team at their current setting
We also offer training for parents and carers when referred by their child’s SENCO around
- Neurodiversity
- Speech and language
- Music in development
