Childcare sufficiency and quality

Childcare Sufficiency Assessment

Local Authorities have a duty to secure enough childcare in their area, including for:

  • working families, or parents who are studying / training
  • families with children who are entitled to free early years education places
  • families who need out of hours or holiday childcare
  • families with children with special educational needs or disabilities

Local Authorities must also work to make sure childcare is:

  • high quality
  • affordable
  • accessible

They also have a duty to report annually on how they are meeting their sufficiency duties. This is usually called the Childcare Sufficiency Assessment.

Education and Early Years Sufficiency Strategy

Our strategy sets out the challenges we face meeting the need and demand for education provision for children and young people.  It also sets out how we will meet this need through high quality early years and education places. Demand for places includes early years to secondary. As well as access to specialist and alternative provision.

The Strategy will help to achieve the priorities set out in the Education Strategy for Cornwall.  It ensures access to world class education.  This is for all children, young people and families in Cornwall.  It helps them to achieve the best possible outcomes.
