Commercial waste at household waste and recycling centres

Who can use this service

We now accept business and trade waste at 5 of our Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs). The HWRCs that accept this waste are:

  • St Erth
  • Launceston
  • Bude
  • Newquay
  • St Austell

This service can be used by businesses that:

  • can’t use our commercial waste collection service because they work at multiple locations like in other people’s homes or businesses
  • don’t generate commercial waste frequently enough to need a regular collection
  • need to dispose of trade waste like electrical items, wood, plasterboard, rubble and bathroom suites that we aren’t able to collect from you

Before you visit

To dispose of business waste at one of our HWRCs you need to:

  1. make sure you have a copy of your valid waste carriers licence (you won't be able to unload any waste without this). Don't have a waste carriers licence? You can find out more, register for, or renew yours on the Government's website
  2. book a slot in advance using our online booking system

Vehicle rules and restrictions

You don’t need a van or trailer permit if you’re disposing of business or trade waste.

Tipper vehicles

We cannot allow vehicles to tip waste directly onto the floor. All waste must be unloaded by hand.

Vehicles with trailers

If you bring waste in both a vehicle and a trailer, you’ll be charged separately for each based on their type.

What to expect when you arrive

  1. Check in - a staff member will confirm you’ve booked a slot and commercial slot
  2. Licence check - you’ll be asked to confirm that you’ve brought a copy of your waste carrier’s licence
  3. Parking - the team will book you in and point you to the right area to park your vehicle
  4. Quick inspection - someone will do a quick check of your waste and your licence
  5. Paperwork - staff will fill out a waste transfer note
  6. Payment - once the paperwork is completed, you’ll make your payment
  7. Unload - after that, you can start unloading

How charges work

Fixed price per material type

  • You’ll be charged the price for a full load of the material listed in the table below, even if your vehicle isn’t completely full. This keeps things simple and fair for everyone.

Mixed loads

  • If you bring a mixed load containing different materials, the charge will be based on the most expensive material in your load.
  • Example: If your load contains both soil and plasterboard, you’ll pay the plasterboard rate because it’s the higher-priced material.

Payment

  • Our sites only accept card payments. We can’t take cash or cheques.
  • The staff’s decision on the charge is final.

How much you'll pay
