Confirming your Address

Address Confirmation

Cornwall Council is the authority for street names and addresses in Cornwall. The addresses we create and manage are part of the National Land and Property Gazetteer.

It is common for your postal address, held by Royal Mail, to differ from your formal address, held by Cornwall Council. This is because Royal Mail base their addresses on their operational needs, for example the Post Town may not be your nearest large town. Royal Mail are responsible for postcodes; as part of an application to create or amend an address we consult with Royal Mail to ensure the correct postcode is being used.

You can view your formal address including the UPRN (Unique Property Reference Number) at FindMyAddress.

How to get formal Address Confirmation

If you require formal written confirmation of your address, which is often requested by solicitors and Land Registry, please email us at addressmanagement@cornwall.gov.uk with as much detail as possible. This is a chargeable service, and the current fee is £53. We aim to turn around Address Confirmation requests within 5 working days.
