Before a neighbourhood plan can be prepared, the parish or town council preparing the plan must apply to us to designate a neighbourhood area:
- Preparing a Neighbourhood Plan
- Fill in our letter template and explain why the area chosen is appropriate to be designated as a neighbourhood area
- Attach your map showing the proposed designation area
- If you need help producing a map, contact us: neighbourhoodplanning@cornwall.gov.uk
- Normally if your neighbourhood area boundary is the same as your parish boundary, we will approve the designation within 2 weeks. If your boundary is different - for example if it covers more than one parish area, we will publish your application on the online planning register for at least 6 weeks. This is for local people to make comments.
A boundary review in 2021 made changes to some parish boundaries. If your parish boundary has changed that could have implications for your neighbourhood plan. Find out more in our guide note.
