On top of the Forest for Cornwall funding there is a range of other funding sources for tree planting:
Farmers and Landholders:
England Woodland Creation Offer (EWCO)
This funding is provided by the Forestry Commission. It is open to all, although your land must be registered with the Rural Payments Agency
It funds:
- the creation of woodland over 1 hectare in size
- support for the capital items and works to establish new woodland. The payments cover 100% of standard costs.
- 15 years of annual maintenance payments at £400/ha to help establish the young trees
- a contribution towards the cost of installing infrastructure to enable the current and future management of the woodland, or to provide recreational access
- optional additional contributions where the location of the woodland and its design will deliver public benefits. For example: biodiversity, water quality, public access

England Woodland Creation Offer - GOV.UK
MOREwoods Scheme
This funding is provided by the Woodland Trust (WT), and is open to everyone to apply.
It funds:
- planting 500+trees on at least 0.5 hectares of land.
- support for trees and their protection, with 75% of capital costs covered.
- site visit by WT and design support.
- for projects over 1 hectare, the WT can arrange contractors and cover up to 60% of planting costs.

Plant Trees on Your Land with MOREwoods - Woodland Trust
MOREhedges Scheme
This funding is provided by the Woodland Trust (WT). It is open to everyone to apply.
It funds:
- Planting 100+ meters of new hedging with a standard tree every 6 meters.
- up to 75% of costs covered.
- advice on trees, protection etc provided by WT.
- proposed hedge must connect with at least 0.2ha of existing woodland or woodland must be within 500m and connected by existing hedgerows.

Plant Hedges on Your Land with MOREhedges - Woodland Trust
Trees For Your Farm Scheme
This funding is provided by the Woodland Trust and is open to all farmers.
It funds:
- Planting of 500+ trees to improve productivity and the environment on your farm.
- Funding of up to 100% of costs is available for agroforestry schemes which benefit the business of productive farms. This includes a site visit and tree planting assessment.
To enquire, email plant@woodlandtrust.org.uk and include details of your farm business. You will need to include what type of planting you are planning and the impact you hope the trees will have on your farm.
Due to popular demand, WT are currently accepting applications for planting between November 2026 and March 2027. WT have expert advisors who will work closely with you to plan and design your agroforestry scheme.
We recommend you apply early to secure your place.
Community and School Projects:
Trees Outside Woodland Fund
Funding is provided by the Tree Council, and it open to local authorities and charities with income of over £100,000.
If funds:
- grants of between £10,000 and £40,000 are being offered for trees and supporting capital items.
Application begins with an expression of interest. This will then be reviewed by The Tree Council, who will provide feedback. Successful applicants will be invited to submit a full application.
Trees Outside Woodland Fund - The Tree Council
Cornwall Council Crowdfunder:
Funding is provided by Cornwall Council, and is open to everyone. Projects which show a strong community impact and promote public access will be prioritised.
If your idea or project meets the criteria you can apply for a grant to match fund up to 50% of costs and up to £5,000. For exceptional projects that could offer a larger impact, the Crowdfunder can offer grants of up to £15,000.
Cornwall Climate and Nature Fund grants will be allocated once the applicant has reached 25% of their target from a minimum of 25 unique backers.

Branching Out Fund
Funding is provided by the Tree Council. This fund is for community groups, schools, not-for-profits, tree warden networks, and charities, for projects on public or leased land.
Your can apply for £250-£2500 for small community projects in the UK for trees and their protection

The deadline for applicants is 17th November 2025.
Branching out fund - Tree Council
Network Rail Community Tree Planting Fund
This fund is from Network Rail and The Tree Council. It is open to wide range of applicants, including local authorities, community groups, schools and landholders. Projects must be community led and deliver long-term public benefits. Projects must also be not for profit.
It provides:
- grants of between £2,500 and £10,000
- this covers trees (but not large, containerised stock), fruit trees and tree protection (where required)
Application can be made via an online form that can be found by following the link below. Funding is competitive and application approval will be determined by a judging panel.
The closing date for round 1 is 31st July 2025.
Network Rail Community Tree Planting Fund - The Tree Council
Free Trees for Schools and Communities
This funding is provided by the Woodland Trust, and is for schools and communities.
The Woodland Trust offer free tree packs for schools and communities which they deliver twice a year, in March and November.
Application is via an online form that can be found by following the link below. Applications are open until August.
You will need a six-digit grid reference for the land you wish to plant on, as well as the permission of the landowner.
Free Trees for Schools and Communities - Woodland Trust
I Dig Trees
This funding is provided by the Conservation Volunteers (TCV), and is open to everyone. All trees must be planted on publicly accessible land
TCV will provide free tree packs (containing 50 trees), and when funding is available, they can also provide free fruit tree packs to schools.
