Supporting Young People into Education, Employment and Training

Your Future Kernow

Your Future Kernow (YFK) works with schools and colleges to support young people who may be at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) after age 16.

We focus on young people who may need extra help. This includes:

  • young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), with or without an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan

  • those not in mainstream school

  • care experienced young people

  • young people working with the Youth Justice Service

  • young carers

YFK identifies pupils in Years 9 to 11 who may need support. We use the At Risk of NEET Indicator (RONI) tool to help spot those who may struggle. This helps us offer support early.

Our aim is to show young people the opportunities open to them. We know planning the future can feel overwhelming. We help young people explore their options and choose the right path.

We add to the careers support already in schools. We offer extra training, vocational profiling, and tailored support linked to the Gatsby Benchmarks.

YFK provides a range of support, including:

  • one-to-one mentoring

  • group workshops on employability and resilience

  • advice on the local job market

  • help with supported internships

We also have a legal duty to track young people’s education and work status. Schools must share key information with us, such as planned destinations and progress.

We work in schools, colleges, and communities to help young people make positive choices about their future.
