It is important that we all recycle as much as we can. One of the biggest challenges we face is how to manage our resources, materials and waste.
Our resources and waste strategy sets out the aims and objectives for managing our waste more effectively over the next 20 years.
Cornwall’s Resources and Waste Strategy Household recycling collections
We collect the following items for recycling from households:
- cardboard
- paper
- plastic
- metal packaging
- glass bottles and jars
- clothes and textiles
- food waste
In Cornwall, we ask you to sort your recycling into the different coloured bags and box.
Sorting at home helps Cornwall produce higher quality, more valuable recycling than if everything were mixed in one bin.
This makes it easier to find trusted companies in the UK to recycling Cornwall’s materials.
New to recycling?
If sorting your recycling feels overwhelming, start by recycling just one item. Focusing on one material makes it easier to build the habit and you’re more likely to stick with it!
- Pick one item to start recycling – such as cardboard, plastic bottles or glass.
- Order your recycling bag or box if you haven’t already.
- Once it arrives, start filling it with your chosen item, ready for your next collection day.

- know what goes where - make sure you're familiar with what can go into each recycling bag, box and your food waste caddies
- Use our recycling A-Z - not sure if something can be recycled or where it goes? Our Recycling A-Z tool is a quick and easy way to find out.
- Check your local HWRC – if we don’t collect it from home, it might still be recyclable at our of our Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs).
- Recycle soft plastics – many supermarkets now collect soft plastics like bread bags and crisp packets. Check locally to see what’s available in your area.
- Use Recycle Now’s locator tool - for items we don’t collect or accept at our HWRCs (such as blister packs) use Recycle Now’s locator tool to find out where they can be recycled near you.
