What happens at examination

We will cover the costs for an Independent Examiner to review your neighbourhood plan.  Together we will agree which examiner to appoint. We will normally be able to choose from more than one examiner.

The Examiner will:

  • Consider whether the neighbourhood plan meets the basic conditions and has followed the legal process
  • Write a report and recommend changes to the policies to ensure that they meet the legal requirements
  • Confirm whether the neighbourhood plan can proceed to referendum
  • We will need to agree how the neighbourhood plan will be changed in accordance with the Examiner's report
  • The Examiner will advise us of the voting area.  This may include people beyond the neighbourhood plan area if it will affect them

The Examiner's report is not legally binding. However, we would normally follow the Examiner's changes unless there are exceptional circumstances.

You will need to provide an amended neighbourhood plan for publication. This should incorporate any necessary changes.  This is the version that will be voted on at referendum. It will be the final version of the neighbourhood plan.

Please do not publish any images that identify people or publish signatures. Published images of people should have their written permission.
