Afghan Resettlement in Cornwall: July 2025

What’s Changing

On 1 July 2025, the UK Government issued a statement. The Afghan Resettlement Programme (ARP) has now formally closed to new principal applicants.

  • This includes the Afghan Relocations, Assistance Policy (ARAP) and the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS).
  • No new applicants will be accepted into the schemes. Existing applications will still be processed by the Home Office.
  • Eligible applicants can still bring immediate family members (spouse and children under 18).
  • Eligible applicants have 30 days to apply for additional family members.

“So far, over 34,000 Afghans have relocated to the UK and started rebuilding their lives in this country. This is an incredible achievement.”  UK Government, 1 July 2025

The government are prioritising the resettlement of these Afghan families. To move them into safe, stable homes in the community.

What this means for Afghans resettled in Cornwall

Cornwall Council continues to support people in the UK through resettlement schemes. This includes people who have fled conflict or persecution in their home countries.

We will continue to work with partners to provide housing, education, healthcare and support for those in the UK.

We are grateful to our residents, partners, and volunteers for their support. Working together to foster cultural understanding and integration remains essential.
