Our aim:
That by 2030, every resident of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly will have the tools, skills, confidence, and support to be digitally included.
Summary
This strategy sets out our recommendations that will help us deliver on the aim of this strategy. Those recommendations are:
- Measure
Establish robust data gathering and analysis on digital exclusion, using the Digital Inclusion survey to set a baseline and review annually. - Co-ordinate
Build on the existing iCornwall group to create an action group with clear terms of reference and a solid plan, coordinating closely with national organisations. - Digital Skills
Use survey data to provide targeted support to specific groups and communities, with a focus on digital skills for health and wellbeing. - Access and connectivity
Continue funding device local schemes, publicise social broadband tariffs, provide free WiFi in public spaces, and lobby providers, government and partners to improve internet access to all. - Digital Hubs
Badge and resource the Digital Hub network to ensure access points for those most excluded, linking digital champions to hubs. - Awareness
Deliver a county-wide awareness and training programme for digital inclusion. Especially around online safety, with proper resourcing and offline elements. - Community
Endorse and support the VCSE sector to continue digital inclusion provision at a local level. - Resources
Ensure public sector organisations set aside core budgets to support local initiatives that increase digital participation and meet diverse resident needs.
From our previous Digital Inclusion strategy we have learnt a great deal. This has helped us shape the next version of how we tackle the digital divide in Cornwall.
We aim to support our residents in having access to support, skills and connectivity in the future.
