If you are using BorrowBox for the first time you will be prompted to register for an account.  If you already have a BorrowBox account you will be taken straight to the main page.

Getting started

  • BorrowBox logo

The easiest way to access free eBooks, eAudiobooks and ePress is through the BorrowBox app. If you're using an iPhone or iPad you can download the app from the App Store (IOS version 6 or above). If you're using an Android device you can download the app from Google Play Store.
  • Once you've installed the BorrowBox app, go to the 'Please select your library' option and start typing Cornwall. You will need to select 'Cornwall Libraries' and log in with your library card number (which you can find on the back of your library card). If asked for a PIN, this is the last four digits of your library card number.
  • You will then be asked to 'Agree' to the terms and conditions. Once you have clicked on 'Agree' you will be taken through to the app where you can browse, borrow, download and reserve eBooks, eAudiobooks and ePress.

How to borrow and download an eBook, eAudiobook or eMagazine

  • First you'll need to Open Borrowbox. If you want to read or listen on your smartphone or tablet, download the BorrowBox App using the instructions above.
  • Sign into 'My account' using your library card number (which you can find on the back of your library card) and PIN (the last four digits of your library card number).
  • Browse the 'eBooks', 'eAudiobooks' or 'ePress' collections. You can browse through the categories to find titles you might enjoy or search to find a specific title.
  • Select an eBook, eAudiobook or ePress by pressing 'Borrow'.
  • Select 'Confirm eBook loan' or 'Confirm eAudiobook loan'.
  • For ePress you can either select 'Borrow issue only' to borrow that edition only, or 'Confirm loan and subscribe' to automatically download new editions as they are published in future.
  • The eBook, eAudiobook or eMagazine/newspaper will now be available to read and you can access it later from 'My Loans'.
  • Once you've opened your eBook, you can edit the display settings to a dyslexia-friendly font or edit the font size and line spacing to your liking.

BorrowBox eBooks and Kindles

Kindle Fire is the only model of Kindle that can currently access the BorrowBox service.

To read BorrowBox eBooks on a Kindle Fire you will need to download the BorrowBox Kindle Fire app. This is now available on the Amazon Appstore and can be installed on Kindle Fire devices in the usual way. Once you have installed the app choose "Cornwall Libraries" from the list of libraries. Then register using your library card number and PIN (the last four digits of your library card number).

BorrowBox eBooks and eReaders (non-Kindle)

BorrowBox works with eReaders such as Kobo and Nook (if you're using a Kindle, please see the Kindle section above).

You'll need to have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions in order to transfer your downloaded book to your eReader.

Read offline on a computer

You can read straight from your browser following the instructions above or download an eBook to read offline.

To read offline you'll need to install Adobe Digital Editions onto your PC. To do this, please visit the Adobe Digital Editions download page and follow the installation instructions provided. On first launch of Adobe Digital Editions click on Help > Authorize Computer. In the following screen choose Adobe ID from the dropdown menu and enter your Adobe ID and password. If you don't have an Adobe ID yet click on the Create an Adobe ID link on the right hand side or visit the Adobe login website and click on Get an Adobe ID.

Once you've got Adobe set up, return to Cornwall's BorrowBox website, click on 'My loans', select your book and click 'Download for eReader (Adobe ePub)'.
