BorrowBox
BorrowBox lets you download eBooks, eAudiobooks
and eNewspapers and eMagazines on your:
Tablet
Smartphone
PC
Mac
BorrowBox works on Kindle Fire tablets. Other Kindle models do not support the service.
To use BorrowBox on a phone or tablet you need to download the BorrowBox App from your app store. To use BorrowBox on your PC or Mac you can visit the BorrowBox website.
If you are using BorrowBox for the first time you will be prompted to register for an account. If you already have a BorrowBox account you will be taken straight to the main page.
Access BorrowBox eBooks, eAudiobooks and ePress.
You will need:
An internet connection to sign up and download titles.
Once you have downloaded your titles you do not need an internet connection to view or listen to them.
Getting started
Download and install the BorrowBox app from your App Store
When the download is complete, press 'Open'
When the BorrowBox app opens, you will be invited to enter the library name - begin to type Cornwall, though you should only need a few letters for the library to be recognised.
Enter your library card/membership number
Enter your 4 digit PIN. This is likely to be the last four digits of your membership number. If it does not work, contact your local library.
You will then be asked to Agree to terms and conditions
The front page of the BorrowBox app will now show, you can start downloading straightaway
The app should stay logged in, so you won't need to sign in again.
How to borrow and download a title
Open BorrowBox and sign in using the instructions above.
Browse the collections or search for a title. Choose from:
eBooks
eAudiobooks
ePress (which includes eMagazines and eNewspapers)
Select the item you want and press 'Borrow.'
Confirm your loan.
For magazines and newspapers, you can:
Borrow a single issue, or
Subscribe to receive new issues automatically
If your item is available, it will be ready to read or listen to straight away. You can find all your loans in My Loans.
If your item is being borrowed, you can click 'Reserve.' and BorrowBox will let you know when it's ready to borrow.
For some texts you can adjust the font, text size and spacing to suit your needs, including choosing a dyslexia-friendly font.
eBooks and eAudiobooks are returned automatically at the end of the loan period. There are no overdue charges. You can return titles early through the BorrowBox app or website
BorrowBox eBooks and eReaders (non-Kindle)
BorrowBox works with eReaders such as Kobo and Nook. To transfer a book to your eReader you will need to download Adobe Digital Editions.
Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
Open the programme and sign in with your Adobe ID. If you don't have one, you can create one for free.
Borrow a book on BorrowBox.
Download, then open it in Adobe Digital Editions.
Finally, connect your eReader to your computer and transfer the eBook to your eReader.
Read offline on a computer
If you have an internet connection, you can read straight from the BorrowBox website.
If you want to read offline:
Download and install Adobe Digital Editions.
Open the programme and sign in with your Adobe ID. If you don't have one, you can create one for free.
Sign in to BorrowBox and go to My Loans.
Select your eBook and choose Download for eReader (Adobe ePub).
Open the downloaded file in Adobe Digital Editions and start reading.
Once downloaded, you can read your eBook without an internet connection.
