Apprenticeships are changing!

From April 2017 Government reforms will mean changes to funding and delivery of apprenticeships to meet the national target of 3 million apprenticeships by 2020.  This means that, as well as contributing to an apprenticeship levy, the Council, as a public sector body, will have a target set by the Government to increase the number of people starting an apprenticeship.

The changes will help Cornwall Council plan and build the workforce skills and capabilities needed now and in the future. Providing apprenticeships and routes into apprenticeships are an integral part of Cornwall’s wider economic and skills strategy and education strategy by helping to raise skills and aspirations.

Our Apprenticeship Strategy outlines the opportunities as well as the challenges we face over the next four years and sets out an ambitious action plan that will help new recruits achieve their potential through amazing apprenticeships.

Cornwall Council recruits apprentices in groups three times a year, with some ad-hoc vacancies also appearing throughout the year. This approach gives our apprentices the chance to meet other people in the organisation in the same boat, to help and support each other.
