How Homechoice works

Registering

To use Homechoice, first you must register as a new applicant. You need an email address to use the Homechoice website. Once you have set up your user account, you will receive an email with your Household ID and password.

Register with Homechoice

After registering with Cornwall Homechoice, we will assess your housing need.

We will send you:

  • your banding
  • the size of the properties you are eligible to bid on (number of bedrooms)

Why is my application status showing as pending or suspended?

Your new account will not be active and will show as suspended until we assess your application. We aim to do this within 28 working days.  If we need any more information we will contact you. You cannot place bids until we process your application. Any Parish and Cornwall connections they will not show until we check this.

Bidding

Once your application is active you can place a 'bid' on a property that you are interested in (up to 3 bids per week).

For help in placing a bid, please read the bidding guide

You must log into your Homechoice account to bid on properties. The new Cornwall Homechoice system opened at 9am on 14 April 2025. The first weekly advert and bidding cycle will open on 17 April 2025.

Each weekly bidding cycle currently runs from a Thursday morning to Monday midnight each week. After bidding has closed, a shortlist of everyone who has applied is produced.

Changes to your circumstances

If there is any change in your circumstances, you must update your application.

If you are allocated a home and we find that your current details are not up to date and correct, the offer may be withdrawn.

How to change your contact details.

Change of address

If you move address, you must:

  • cancel your current application

If you are homeless, then please put your current address as ‘NFA - No Fixed Abode’ on your new application.

Important: It is your responsibility to ensure your details are kept up to date.
