Next steps after leaving prison
Prison resettlement workers refer directly into our specialist team before release from prison. It is important that you speak to family members or friends to ask them to accommodate you. You may not meet the criteria for emergency housing.
Rough Sleeper Services
If you are not eligible for emergency housing and have nowhere else to stay, we will refer you into rough sleeper services.
Longer-term housing
If you are homeless, our Housing Options caseworker will agree a Personal Housing Plan with you. We will work with you and/or your probation worker to help you find a home.
Steps to take to finding a home:
- Look for an affordable private rented home (we may be able to help you with rent in advance and deposit)
- Your caseworker may refer you into supported housing.
How will I be able to afford my tenancy being on benefits?
If you are not employed you may be able to claim Universal Credit, or Housing Benefit. If you are single and under the age of 35 you will most likely only be entitled to the 'shared room rate'. This means an affordable choice for you in the private rented sector is a room in a shared house.
