Many people who receive care pay for it themselves, not with a Direct Payment or Individual Service Fund. We call these people self funders.
The threshold for funding your own care is £23,250. If you have more than that in assets, or in the bank, then you must pay for care you need, for yourself. This includes care homes, care in your own home, and other support outside the home, such as activities and groups.
If you are funding your own care, that does not mean that you cannot access some of the care opportunities and providers that others can use, just that you have to pay for it for yourself.
There are a number of resources that you may find helpful when planning your own care or support. We have linked to some of the most useful ones here, and you can find more on the Community Directory.

Carers support – if you are caring for a person who is funding their own care, you may still be eligible for carers support.
