What we do


We deliver a range of services to increase the resilience of communities across Cornwall. We work in partnership with:

  • local groups
  • Devon and Cornwall Police
  • South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

We each plan for emergencies and how to respond to them.

We provide Cornwall Fire and Rescue Services and work with local partners to:

  • identify emergency risks
  • plan for emergency scenarios
  • respond rapidly and effectively when emergencies occur

Breakdown of services

Fire and Rescue Services

We manage the operational delivery of the fire, rescue and community safety services, including the resilience and response team. We also provide fire safety support and advice to business premises. We provide response to a range of emergencies and people in crisis 24/7, 365 days a year.

We are responsible and accountable for:

  • The leadership, strategic and general management of fire and rescue emergency response across 31 community fire stations
  • Prevention
  • Protection
  • Road safety
  • Antisocial behaviour

The functions provide critical front line emergency response and recovery supported by the provision of prevention and protection based activities and reducing crime and disorder and antisocial behaviour in our neighbourhoods.

Delivering the following functions:

  • Fire and emergency response
  • Special service calls
  • Business safety support and enforcement, strategy and delivery
  • Road safety, strategy, education and delivery
  • Home safety and fire safety education, strategy and delivery
  • Living well, living safe development and delivery
  • Anti-social behaviour delivery
  • Tri-Service development and delivery
  • Medical co-responding
  • Medical first responding
  • Station based operational training (through Group Training Instructors)
  • Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Programme (JESIP) national assets
  • Specialist targeted prevention activities
  • Initiative and evaluation group co-ordinating local prevention activities
  • Operational budget
  • Service delivery co-ordination for Isle of Scilly’s emergency provision

Resilience and Emergency Management

We work closely with local partners to coordinate Cornwall Council’s local authority statutory duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and other legislation. This includes the provision of public information, risk assessments and planning for and responding to emergencies.


Service Development and Improvement

We provide efficient and effective management support for the Fire and Rescue Service to ensure these critical services can operate at their best. These support functions include:
