Climate change is already having an impact on our day to day lives. There are lots of actions you can take as an individual to increase your resilience to climate change. The UK government has a website with advice on how to get prepared for emergencies.

If you work for an organisation wanting to increase it's preparedness, you can use the Local Climate Adaptation Tool to understand projected changes and actions you could take.
Flooding
- Check your flood risk: you can do this using the Environment Agency's flood risk tool.
- Increase the resilience of your home: visit the BeFloodReady website to learn more about easy changes you can make.
- Sign up for property flood resilience: Cornwall Council sometimes runs property flood resilience funding schemes.
- Sign up for flood warnings: if they're available in your area, then you can sign up for flood warnings here.
- Follow Cornwall Council's advice to prepare for a flood.
- Report floods that you see to the appropriate organisation.
Coastal erosion and sea level rise
- Report any damage you see to coastal structures: use our Let's Talk Cornwall reporting tool to tell use where you've seen damage.
- Understand the Shoreline Management Plan policy for your area.
Heat and drought
- Improve the water efficiency of your home: South West Water offer advice and sometimes offer free water saving products for your home.
- Follow advice to prepare for heatwaves and cool your home.
- Follow UK Government advice to beat the heat during a heat wave and keep an eye out for more vulnerable individuals.
- Sign up for the Met Office's heat health alert service.
Storms and high winds
- Avoid travel if possible. Follow safe travel advice during storms if you have to drive somewhere.
