Cornwall Council social worker Lynn Counter won the Silver Award for mental health social worker at this year’s Social Worker of the Year awards which took place on Friday, November 4.
Lynn, from St Newlyn East, has worked as a social worker at Cornwall Council for 38 years. After working in different roles throughout her career, she currently works as a senior practitioner in the council’s Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Approved Mental Health team.
Lynn’s nomination recognised her dedication to supporting people in crisis as well as the support and guidance she gives to colleagues.
Strategic Director of Cornwall Council’s care and wellbeing service Ali Bulman said: “Lynn’s Silver Award reflects her dedication to social work, her strong values, and her drive to improve social outcomes.
“She was thanked personally by the award sponsor S12Solutions for her long and dedicated career in mental health who were hugely impressed by her dedication to people and colleagues. She was also congratulated personally by Lyn Romeo, Chief Social Worker and Ruth Allen, Chief Executive at British Association of Social Workers.”
Cornwall Council cabinet member for adults and wellbeing Andy Virr said: “I’m full of admiration for Lynn’s hard work and dedication. I’d like to personally thank her for her years of service and the invaluable contribution to social work in Cornwall. Its right and just that she be given this award and she has made Cornwall proud.”
