Tell Us Once is an optional free service that lets you report a death to most government organisations and council departments in one go.
When you register a death with us the registrar will ask if you want to use the Tell Us Once service. If you do, they will give you a unique reference number to access the service online or over the phone.
This means you won't need to get in touch with individual organisations or send copies of death certificates to notify them of a death - Tell Us Once will do it all for you.
There is a short video clip available that explains a little more about this service.
You can find out more about this service and which organisations we will contact, on the gov.uk website. Once you have your unique reference number from the Registrar you can go to this same site and click the Start Now option to proceed.
If the Coroner is involved
If the death is subject to an inquest or further investigation by the Coroner and is not to be registered immediately, the Coroner will notify us. This is usually done when the Interim Death Certificates are issued to you.
In this instance you are still welcome to use the Tell Us Once service. To do so please complete the Request an Appointment form and enter in the notes that the coroner has advised that inquest or further investigation is needed. We will then contact you to arrange a tell us once telephone appointment.
