School admissions


Finding the right school place for your child is important as a parent/carer. The admissions pages aim to provide you with all the information you need to apply for a school place. Please use the contact details on this page if you need further advice.

Some private organisations provide information on the availability of school places.  You should always contact the School Admissions Team for up to date information.


Changing/joining a school during the school year - 'in-year' admissions

Normal round admissions 

School place applications for September 2023 entry

To apply for a place at one of these points of entry, go to our September 2023 admissions page.

  • Starting infant/primary school
    For children born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019

  • Transfer to junior school 
    For children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 (attending an infant school in Cornwall)

  • Transfer to secondary school
    For children born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012

  • Starting at a university technical college or studio school
    Year 9 at a KS4 school (UTC or studio school) in another county in September 2023, such as Scott College in Plymouth. 

Ukrainian refugees – school placements

Ukrainian refugee children of school age are entitled to school places.

School places must be applied for through Cornwall Council in the usual way using the processes described on these web pages.

Parents/carers or hosts can apply for places through the Parent Portal by following the link above to the Changing Schools In-year page.  Please indicate on the application form the nature of the arrival (e.g. arriving through Homes for Ukraine or arriving to be with family/friends) and any other relevant information including education support needs.
