We know some people may have concerns about CCTV in public places. We work closely with town councils to protect people's privacy.

We do this by:

  • Limiting who can access CCTV recordings and the control room.

  • Carefully choosing where cameras are placed and what they can see.

Town and parish councils pay for the scheme through council tax. The scheme helps make local areas safer for everyone.

The 360-degree cameras record clear digital images. These images can help the police investigate crime and support prosecutions.

The CCTV system is linked to the Emergency Management Centre at County Hall in Truro. This allows authorised staff to view camera images during emergencies, such as floods and major fires.

Control room staff can contact the police, ambulance service, and street pastors directly. They can call for help if they see someone who is ill, injured, or at risk.

We use CCTV to:

  • Help find vulnerable people and get them support.

  • Help people who need medical assistance.

  • Work with the police to improve community safety.

  • Help prevent and detect crime.

  • Reduce fear of crime.

  • Help identify and prosecute people involved in crime or disorder.

  • Support emergency services during incidents.

  • Help the local authority enforce licensing laws.
