The retention and disposal schedule lists the types of records the Council holds. It also shows how long records need to be stored before:
- being destroyed
- transferred to the Council's Archives
The retention and disposal schedule applies to all records, regardless of format.
The benefits of using the schedule are:
- Records are available when necessary to enable Council business and meet legal requirements
- Personal data is only held for as long as necessary in line with data protection legislation
- Historical and legal records get transferred to the Council's Archives to store forever
