We organise all elections in Cornwall for Cornwall Council, Town and Parish Councils, UK Parliament, Police and Crime Commissioner, plus Business Improvement District ballots and Neighbourhood Plan referendums. We also maintain the Register of Electors to ensure that people are registered to vote.

Local elections 2025: Where’s my polling station? What ID can I use? What if I need help?
Voters will head to the polls on May 1There’s just one week to go until Cornwall’s voters head to the polls for local elections.
If you plan to vote on May 1, make sure you bring your photo ID and if you need help, just ask a member of staff when you arrive at the polling station.

Education 2021
There has been an increase in people with a level 4 qualification whilst we have seen a decrease in residents with no qualifications
The proportion of people in Cornwall with Level 4 qualifications and above is slightly below the average for England and Wales.
The second most common category in Cornwall was Level 3 qualifications. This is followed by those with no qualifications.

Census 2021
On this page, you will find the Cornish results from the Census undertaken in 2021.
The census happens every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, they undertake their own version of the census – that we can use to compare to local figures. Housing
There has been growth in households living in the private rented sector, which now houses almost 20% of households.
There has also been an increase in households that own their home outright and a reduction in households that own with a mortgage. Further analysis of the Census shows;

Health, disability and carers
Health inequalities persist with poorer health, disability and unpaid care a key feature of some of our most deprived areas
In Cornwall, 79.3% of residents reported good or very good health, with 6.2% reporting bad or very bad health. This is lower than the proportions reported for both the South West and England and Wales.

Changes for European Union citizens about voting and elections
The changes and who they affect
The law has changed affecting European Union (EU) citizens. Those changes affect which elections EU citizens can vote in and stand as a candidate in.
After the UK left the European Union, the changes were made under the Elections Act 2022. From 7 May 2024, the changes apply to:

Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
