Carrier bags

Can I recycle it?

Carrier bags are collected as part of your recycling collection.

Use your carrier bag or bread bag to collect your plastic bags and wrapping. Tie it at the top before you put it out for collection. Extra bags can go inside the main one.

  • Small amount to recycle? Tuck your tied bag inside your red recycling bag
  • Lots to recycle and no space in your red bag? Place the tied bag on top of your black box or tuck it alongside your recycling bags so it doesn't blow away

Which container?

Carrier bags go in your red recycling bag, on top of your black box or tucked alongside your recycling bags.

Useful information

The best way to reduce your single-use carrier bag consumption is to invest in reusable shopping, grocery and produce bags. While they cost a little more up front, there are many benefits of reusable bags. Particularly when it comes to easing pollution and the effects of plastic on the environment. For online shopping deliveries, many supermarkets also allow you to hand your unwanted bags back to the driver for recycling.
