Can I recycle it?
We cannot accept bikes as part of household recycling collection service.
You can repair, refurbish and reuse even bikes in poor condition.
However, if your bike really is beyond repair, you can recycle the main metal parts at any Household Waste and Recycling Centre.
Cornwall Life Recycle
Cornwall Life Recycle receives donated bikes. They work with disadvantaged adults and young people to rebuild them and find them new homes.
Based in Camborne, Cornwall Life Recycle are always looking for old unwanted bicycles with not too much rust. More information on the Cornwall Life Recycle project can be found on the Life Recycle website.
Bikes to Africa
Bikes to Africa, in partnership with Halfords, provide collection points in their stores for unwanted bicycles in different areas of the UK. The branch of Halfords in Cornwall which will currently accept bikes is in St.Austell at Unit 2a, Pentewan Road, St.Austell PL25 5BU (01726 68981)
If you have an unwanted bicycle in reasonable condition (no more than 25% rust) Halfords will be pleased to see you. More information on the Bikes to Africa Project can be found by visiting http://www.re-cycle.org/
Donate or sell
Charity shops are always grateful for donations of unwanted items in good condition. You could also organise a give and take event or give items away via Freecycle, Freegle.
You can donate usable furniture to community projects like:
- RE:SOURCE in Bodmin
- Heartlands Furniture in Pool
- GOFA in Penzance
- Cornwall and Plymouth Furniture Reuse Project.
Or sell your spare stuff at garage sales and car boot sales or on eBay. If you can transport items yourself, most towns have their own auction rooms. They are also a good way of selling and buying second hand items.

For safety reasons, no public pedestrian access is allowed through the entrance or exit gates at any of our household waste recycling centres.
Only waste from households in Cornwall can be taken to these sites. Commercial waste is not accepted at any recycling centre.
