Street name plates

Street names are to situated in a conspicuous place. At the start and/or end of a street or at any point of access to that street. Developers are responsible for providing the initial nameplates on Developments with new streets.

All new street nameplates are to be Bi-Lingual, if the street name is English. With the English above with the Cornish below. The Cornish Language Office will provide the accepted Cornish translation. Please refer to the Street Naming and Numbering Guidance notes.

Please note all other signs are dealt with by our Highways Department. You can report defective or missing highways signs on the Report It web page.

Cornwall Council is required under the Towns Improvement Clauses Act 1847 (Sections 64 and 65), Public Health Act 1945 (Sections 17-19) and the Local Government Act 2003 to name and number streets and to approve and register official property addresses in the county of Cornwall.

Your data will be held within Cornwall Council’s secure network and premises and will not be processed outside of (the UK/the EEA).  Access to your information will only be made to authorised members of staff who are required to process it for the purposes outlined in this privacy notice.

7 years from the date your application is completed

Why do you need my information?

  • You have asked us provide you with a Street Naming and Numbering service so we need your name, address and payment details.  Without them we will not be able to provide you with the service.
