The Sustainability Appraisal (SA) is an integral part of preparing local developments documents. It appraises the social, environmental and economic effects of a plan from the start.
It should:
- perform a key role in providing a sound evidence base
- be transparent and open to public participation
- inform decision making
- show a plan is the most appropriate given the reasonable alternatives
