Community events
To help foster vibrant, safe, and supportive communities Cornwall Council's Resettlement Service works in partnership with charities, volunteers, residents, community groups and schools on various events and campaigns throughout the year.
“There’s a huge amount of energy and activity bubbling through our grassroot organisations and we are determined to nurture their capacity to play a leading role in resettling refugees.”

Community as a Superpower
Refugee week is 16 to 22 June. This year’s theme is “Community as a Superpower”.
This is a timely reminder that the strength of community lies in the everyday acts of care and connection. Whether it’s a warm welcome, a shared meal, or simply listening to someone’s story, these small moments of kindness create powerful ripples. They help turn strangers into neighbours and unfamiliar places into a sense of home.
How can you get involved in Refugee Week?
The Refugee Week website features a range of Simple Acts that anyone can take to support the movement for change and show solidarity with refugees. These actions help make Cornwall a more welcoming, safe, and sustainable place for all.
Events taking place locally
During Refugee Week community groups, organisations and charities will host events to celebrate diversity and promote inclusion. Where possible we will attend to support activities which are open to the public and mostly free to attend.
