WJEC Qualification in Cornish Language

The WJEC (Welsh Joint Education Committee) now offers an Entry Level language qualification in Cornish.

WJEC offers a range of QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) accredited language qualifications. The qualifications allow learners to prove their competency in communicating in another language. Learners show what they “can do” with their new language, rather than what they can remember.

You can find out more about WJEC language qualifications on the WJEC website.

There are three units to choose from and at Entry Level the assessment is in spoken Cornish only (no written papers). The three units are:

  • Communicating personal information
  • Education and employment
  • Social activities

Candidates can:

  • Select which units they are assessed in
  • Choose different units in later years at a higher level

This means that they could develop the depth and range of their Cornish over time.
