Read Newspapers and Magazines Online


From 15 January 2024 you will need a PIN and an active library account to use Pressreader. Your PIN is the last 4 digits of your library card, unless you have recently changed it. If your library account has expired, you will need to re-join the library to use Pressreader.

Enjoy the convenience of your daily paper on a phone, tablet or computer! Access all of your favourite publications in one place and discover new content from around the world. You can read newspapers and magazines online the same day as the printed version comes out. There are over 7000 publications available, all for free, including:

  • BBC Good Food

  • Country Living
  • Daily Mail
  • Empire
  • Focus
  • Gardener’s World
  • Guardian
  • Sky and Night
  • Telegraph
  • The Insider
  • The Simple Things
  • The Wall Street Journal
  • Vogue

For most titles you'll find 3 months worth of back issues. You have the option of translating articles into up to 33 different languages. You can translate international editions into English, or why not translate an article into a language you're learning? You can also click 'listen' to have an article read out to you.

You can access PressReader:

  • In the library with our wi-fi
  • On our library PCs
  • On your smartphone, tablet or computer using either your browser or the PressReader App
  • At home, or in fact anywhere!

PressReader newspapers and magazines

 

Signing in to PressReader

  • Open PressReader in your browser or download the PressReader app. You can do this in the App Store if you're using an iPhone or iPad, or from the Google Play Store if you're using an android phone or tablet.
  • Click 'sign in'
  • Select 'Library or Group' and enter Cornwall in the search box to select your Library Authority.
  • Enter your library card number, which can be found on the back of your library card and your PIN (this will be the last 4 digits of your library card number if you haven't set your own PIN). 
  • A pop up confirms that you can now read newspapers and magazines online. You have 30 days FREE access to read online and download publications to read offline.
  • At the end of the 30 days, simply sign out and sign back in again with your library card number to reactivate your FREE access for another 30 days. Reactivate as many times as you wish!


How to find UK newspapers and magazines

  • You can use the search bar at the top to find a particular title.
  • You can also select either 'newspapers' or magazines' and then click on 'categories' to search by subject matter, or 'countries' to browse titles from a particular country.

British Newspaper Archive 

Cornwall Libraries has subscribed to The British Newspaper Archive (in Library use only). While you are within your local library you will have unlimited access to the millions of scanned pages of newspapers that the British Newspaper Archive site has to offer. You'll need to register and login to the British Newspaper Archive to view the archive site.

The British Newspaper Archive is a partnership between the British Library and Find My Past.  They aim to digitise up to 40 million newspaper pages from the British Library's vast collection.

How to access the British Newspaper Archive

To access the British Newspaper Archive website you will need to register your contact details. (Otherwise you will be re-directed to the payment page when trying to view an image.)

To do this please select the link above and then click 'Register' at the top of the main page.  Once on the registration page please enter your contact details, create a password and then select 'Get Started'.  Once your account has been created our subscription will give you access to the entire archive.
