Borrowing items
- Cornwall library members may borrow up to 12 items from our collection
- Junior members may borrow up to 18 items from our collection
How long you can keep items
- You can borrow books and Audio books for three weeks. You may keep them longer by renewing your items.
- You can borrow CDs and DVDs for one week. You may keep them longer by renewing your items.
Renewing items
- You can renew your items by logging in to your library account.
- You can also renew your items at your local branch library or by phoning 0300 1234 111 Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 6pm.
You can renew books up to five times before we need to see them. If you still want the items, you need to bring them to the library for re-issuing. Items reserved by another library customer will only be renewed for one more week.
Returning items
You can return your library items to any library in Cornwall. It does not have to be the library you borrowed the book from. Check your local library opening hours before trying to return your items. You do not need to bring your library card to return items to the library.
There are no fines or fees for overdue items, but we ask that you try to return items on time. This allows our service to run smoothly for everyone.
Reserving items
You can reserve items through the online catalogue or in person at any Cornwall Library. We will send you an automated message by phone, email or post when your reservation arrives. Online self-reservations using online catalogue are free. There is a limit of 10 reservations at any one time.
Items not in our online library catalogue
If the item that you wish to borrow is not on our online catalogue, you can submit a book request, if it is in print, we will consider buying a copy for our stock.
Out of county inter-library loans
If the item you want to borrow is not in our online catalogue, not in print or included as part of our collection, it may be borrowed through an out of county inter-library loan. Out of county inter-library loans are items requested from other library services within the UK. Please note: There is no guarantee we will be able to supply the item. We will contact you as soon as we can about your request and let you know if we can supply it.
If we can supply the item, we will send it to the library branch nominated by you on the request form below. Library staff will contact you to let you know the item is ready for collection. Charges apply to all out of county inter-library loan requests. The length of time it takes to get the inter-library loan will vary depending on the individual item request.
To request an out of county inter-library loan, please complete the online form below. All fields marked with an asterisk * are required. When you have finished filling out this form please click the Submit button. Please note, once you have submitted your form you will not be able to review it. We will contact you to let you know if we can supply the item.

How we will use the information about you?
Cornwall Council must provide a comprehensive and efficient library service by law. This is under the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964. We will use the information you provide to deliver this service to you. We will only use your information for your library membership and services.
We will share your information with our contracted partners. These are local town and parish councils and community groups. They work with us to deliver the library service.

How long will we keep this information for?
We will keep your information for 24 months from the date you last accessed the service. Unless there are outstanding loans or charges on your record. In this case, we may keep your information stored for up to 84 months. This is in line with Batchelor retention guidelines.
