The Renters Rights Act 2025 brings major changes to how homes are let in the private rented sector. These changes are being introduced in stages and impact all landlords and letting agents in England.
What landlords must do
If you have existing tenants, you must act by 31 May 2026. you must give each tenant:
- the Government's Renters Rights Act Information Sheet 2026
- a written statement of tenancy terms (only where the tenancy is verbal).
This requirement applies where the tenancy:
- is an assured or an assured shorthold tenancy
- started before 1 May 2026
- has a partly or fully written agreement
Important points to note:
- the information sheet must be the exact PDF from GOV.UK
- it must be provided as a paper copy of a PDF attachment to an email
- sending the weblink is not sufficient
- failure to comply may result in enforcement action

- is free to join
- provides clear updates and practical guidance
- helps landlords meet the required standards
