Risk of Family Breakdown

The team works with families at risk of breakdown, to help them manage the issues that are causing problems. We use Functional Family Therapy (FFT) in families where there is conflict between individual family members. The team includes social workers.

FFT is a family-based therapy for children aged 10 to 17, and their families. It can be used where the child is involved in violence, crime or substance abuse, or may become involved. FFT investigates the reasons behind every family member's behaviour within the family. We aim to help families understand why they react and behave as they do, so that they are in a better position to change.

We also use Targeted Youth Work (TYW). This is early intervention support to vulnerable people aged 10-25, who are facing specific risks. These include exploitation, crime, and disengagement. (Disengagement means dropping out of school or training, or employment, for the older age group.) We work with the young people, building resilience and, improving their mental health. We also encourage them to participate in education or training.
