We are launching 'have a go' sessions to support our 2027 recruitment for firefighters.
Everyone curious about this rewarding career is welcome. These sessions are informal, with no tests. We aim to inspire those who haven't considered firefighting yet.
The events are at a fire station. There, you can chat with firefighters and staff about their roles. You can ask what it's like to work in fire and rescue.

What to expect
speak to current fire crews. Learn about their routines and experiences
understand the difference between wholetime and on-call firefighters
have a tour of the fire station and try on firefighting gear to get a feel for the equipment used
talks about the application process, including steps, timelines, and requirements.

covers the training school, including curriculum and duration
discusses the development period, its length, and support
explains fitness requirements and shows strength tests and ladder climbs for assessment
engage in practical demonstrations to experience the responsibilities of a firefighter
get details on our pay and key policies. These include maternity leave, health, and welbeing.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing. But trainers and active-wear are best for full participation in the session's activities.
