If there is an immediate risk to life by fire, due to fire safety concerns in a business premises please use this form to tell us.
What constitutes a risk to life?
An immediate risk to life would be a situation where,
- if there was a fire on a premises, the people in the premises would not be able to evacuate without significant risk of injury.
A significant injury is smoke inhalation or burns that may require a hospital visit.
Some examples of urgent fire safety concerns would be:
- Blocked/locked fire exits and stairs or corridors used for escape
- No fire alarm or poorly maintained fire alarm
- Large amounts of combustible material in areas not designed to store the items
- A situation where a number of smaller fire safety problems are present at the same time and culminate in a much larger risk
- Poor staffing levels or staff training in a care setting
Please consider the vulnerability of the persons using the premises when assessing whether the concern is urgent or not. People who require assistance to evacuate are much more at risk from fire.
What happens next
Urgent fire safety risks are monitored 24 hours a day.
Each risk will be assessed and dealt with in a timescale depending on the risk. This will usually be within 24hrs of receiving the notification.
