Review of historic flooding in Liskeard


There are surprisingly few records of flooding in Liskeard, considering its high flood risk assessment score.

There have been past issue with flooding at the Moorswater Industrial Estate and the Liskeard to Looe branch railway line is often impacted by severe weather conditions.

  • In 1954 properties were flooded by the River Seaton during extreme weather conditions. There was also flooding on the Liskeard to Torpoint road at Tinkers Lake as well as flooding in the Glynn Valley and the Liskeard to Looe railway was suspended.
  • In 1979 the Liskeard to Looe railway line was flooded at Causeland Station.
  • In 2000 a property at Merrymeet was flooded by surface water runoff from fields and the road and a property at Rosecraddoc was affected by flooding from the River Seaton. 
  • In 2004 Market Street and Pound Street were affected by flood water with shops being flooded. Also affected were Samuel Bone Close, Valley View, Trevelmond and Stanley Maggs Close.
  • In 2006 at Greenbank Road, blocked highway drains caused flooding to the basement of a business and at Dean Hill property flooded from surface water runoff due to blocked drains, whilst at Wadham Road the cellar of a property flooded due to inadeqaute drainage.
