Long Rock Strategic Coastal Improvements Project

The Long Rock Strategic Coastal Improvements Project was a £3.7m initiative. It aimed to improve resilience to flooding and coastal erosion. The benefits were targeted along the frontage of Mount's Bay. This frontage runs from Mount's Bay between Marazion and Eastern Green.

Quick Look Summary

There were three distinct aspects to the project:

  • Coastal protection of the embankment. This embankment protects the railway line and properties behind it
  • Environmental improvements to Marazion Marsh
  • Improved fish and eel passage for streams entering Mount's Bay.

Funding

The project attracted:

  • £2.7 million from Defra's Flood Defence Grant in Aid (FDGiA) and
  • £1 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

The latter was administered through DCLG (now MHCLG) under Priority Axis 5. This funding focussed on promoting climate change adaptation, risk prevention and management.

Timescale

The project ran from July 2017 through to December 2020. Note that the programme listed in the above infographic has been superseded.
