Passengers buying tickets for Newquay Park and Ride this summer will be able to use their tickets across all town bus services to help cut down on congestion in the town centre.

Based on land on the A392 opposite Hendra Holiday Park, the service will start on Saturday 20 July and run until Sunday 1 September. Buses will run around every 20 mins from 9.20am until 7pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and at regular intervals from 9.35am to 7.15pm on Sundays.

It’s free to park at the site and passengers can use their park and ride tickets on any Newquay town bus service, which includes Porth and Crantock.

Richard Williams-Pears, Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for transport, said:

“Around 1,000 passengers per week used the park and ride last summer, which is great news – and the even better news is that we have plenty of space for many more!

“As residents will know, the population swells significantly during the summer season, putting pressure on the local road network and car parks. The park and ride provides a regular, reliable service to keep traffic out of the town centre and cut down on congestion.”

John Fitter, Cornwall Council local member for St Columb Minor and Colan, said:

“I, along with numerous residents from Qunitrell Downs, welcome the summer arrival of the Newquay park and ride and the contribution that it makes to reducing the overall volume of traffic that flows into Newquay town centre especially in the main summer season when the car parking spaces rapidly full up. Local residents from the surrounding area will now be able to take the park and ride into Newquay without being caught up in congestion along the Henver or Gannel roads.”
