A plan for tackling inequality across Cornwall is to go before the council’s Cabinet committee for final approval next week.
The draft Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2022-2026 was endorsed in June last year, and has since been out for consultation, and has been updated to include the results of the 2021 Census – which have also been included in the Council’s equality and diversity dashboard.
The strategy sets out how the authority plans to ensure it offers equal opportunities for everyone living or working in Cornwall, regardless of their background.
The updated draft strategy has been released on the same day as the council has published its annual Public Sector Equality Duty compliance report, which details progress against objectives set to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation across the organisation.

Cllr Linda Taylor, leader of Cornwall Council, said: “One of the main objectives for this council is to ensure Cornwall is a place where everybody can start well, live well and age well, and to that we must ensure we do all we can to tackle inequality.
“Although the draft version of this strategy was approved last summer, we wanted to ensure it was as comprehensive as possible, and decided to send it for further consultation and to allow time to ensure information from the 2021 Census is included.
“It is vital we all work together to ensure we get the culture right, and to eliminate any form of discrimination from our workplaces.
“Just last week I attended the Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony in Truro Cathedral, an event which highlights why we must learn from history and always be on our guard to ensure everyone is treated equally.
“I believe this strategy sets out in very clear detail how we will do just that, and I look forward to presenting it to cabinet next week.”
