Want to be a firefighter? Come and see if you’ve got what it takes

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is inviting people to experience what it's like to be a firefighter before applying for the role.

The service, which will be opening applications for on-call and wholetime firefighters in the coming months, is hosting a series of Have a Go sessions throughout October.

During the sessions people can try out the equipment, learn about the physical and practical aspects of the job and speak directly with serving firefighters to hear about their experiences.

Anyone aged 18 and over can book a place for the events, which will take place at Tolvaddon, Bodmin, Falmouth and St Austell fire stations.

Kathryn Billing, Chief Fire Officer at Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The Have a Go sessions give people the chance to see what being a firefighter is all about.

“If you’re looking for a new challenge and are passionate about protecting and serving your local community, come along and find out more.”

You can book a place for the following Have a Go events on the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service website.

• Tolvaddon Community Fire Station: Wednesday, 14 October (6-8pm)

• Bodmin Community Fire Station: Saturday, 17 October (10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm)

• Falmouth Community Fire Station: Thursday, 29 October (6-8pm)

• St Austell Community Fire Station: Saturday, 31 October (10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm)

Applications for on-call firefighters will open on November 23. Applications for wholetime firefighters will open in January 2027.
